Isaiah 54:17 is one of the most quoted scriptures in Christian circles, but its meaning goes far deeper than a simple promise of protection. God does not promise that no weapon will ever be formed against you. He promises that the weapon will not prosper. That is a critical distinction. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3 brings this truth to life. They were thrown into a furnace heated seven times hotter than normal, yet God met them inside the fire, their restraints were burned away, and they emerged unharmed. The weapon was formed, the furnace was real, but it did not accomplish what it was intended to do. No matter what you are facing, the fire does not have the final word. God does.
